Insufficient nurses: a Problem that needs to be Solved!

In a hospital, it is not just doctors who have the responsibility of saving lives. Just think for a moment, you are admitted to a hospital in a very bad health condition, the doctor has prescribed you medicine and injections, but there are not sufficient nurses to provide you with that. Scary, isn’t it?
Nurse burnout has been a problem in the healthcare industry for a long time, and with time, the condition is actually getting worse. Let’s dig a bit deeper into the problem. If we can analyze the whole situation, find out the reason(s) behind it, then making a solution to resolve the problem will also be easy.

Nurses Email Lists

Outcome of Nursing Burn Out

“If there are not enough nurses at the bedside, bad things are likely to happen,” said Matthew McHugh, associate professor, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Philadelphia
The equation is very simple, when there are not enough nurses to take care of patients, their condition will become worse. Infections will increase, diseases will take the more critical turn and mortality rate will increase.
Some years back a report was published in the American Journal of Infection Control. According to that report, because of the nurse burnout in Pennsylvania, the rate of catheter infection increased as one infection per 1,000 patients. According to the Health Services Research study, Pennsylvania could have reduced their overall mortality rate by 11-14% if they had a good patient-to-nurse staffing ratio.
Not only that, the result of nurse shortage has also been the reason for overall financial loss for many hospitals. As per the report published by Alliance for Organizational Excellence, for every 1% change in annual nurse turnover, hospitals lose almost $3,00,000. So this is high time that the medical industry experts come out with the solid solution.

Reason behind Nurse Shortage

According to the Health Resources and Services Administration’s study, hospital nursing vacancies are about to reach 8,00,000 (29% increase) by 2020. The number of registered nurses is going to grow only 6%, whereas the demand is about to increase by 40%. This huge difference between demand and supply is about to create some serious problems in providing healthcare.
But why is this nurse burnout taking place? The scarcity of nursing educators in the industry is one of the many reasons for that. Mercy Hospital St. Louis made a study last year and came out with the fact that severe job dissatisfaction is another reason for this shortage in the number of nursing professionals

Strategies to Solve this Problem

Well, the problem is clear, now we have to come out with a solution. Here are some strategies that can solve the whole nurse burnout problem and bring the healthcare industry into a good shape.

#Strategy 1: One of the major and clear reasons behind lack of people getting into nursing profession is that nursing is losing its charm as a field of profession. With the constant rise of demand and extreme work pressure, nurses are losing interest in their work and not being able to encourage others to take this service as a profession. So there has to be some way that the nursing care as a job can again get its charm back.
Online and offline stress reduction classes will help nurses to regain their interest in their profession. There should be mentorship programs where professionals will have someone to encourage them for better performance and boost engagement. Recognition and awards will be helpful to act as short-term professional boost up factor.

#Strategy 2: As lack of proper training is another reason for the shortage of nurse employment, it is a high time that the Government starts focusing more towards providing proper nursing education and certification.
According to an article published by Rasmussen College, with an average age of 50 or above, a vast number of nurse educators are aging out of their profession. The quality of faculties and patterns of practical and theoretical training need immediate improvement. Even for professional nurses, offering continuous training and education will allow them to become experts in their field and achieve professional development successfully.

The situation needs to be changed, as peoples’ lives depend on it… literally!

Need to visit an Audiologist- What are Good Questions to Ask?

What would you feel if you see the crack of dawn and birds flying in the beautiful sky but cannot hear them singing even if you give your best effort? What if you cannot listen to the laugh of your dearest one or cannot talk to your friend because you cannot hear what s/he is talking to you?
When a person loses the ability to hear either because of any accident or from any disease, no one else can really understand that pain. Audiologists take up the responsibility of giving these patients new life by again filling their world of unbearable silence with the magic of sound with appropriate diagnosis and treatments.

Audiologists Mailing List
Audiologists Email List

In order to get the best treatment, when meeting an Audiologist or an ENT Specialist, you need to ask the right question to the doctor to find out the right answer. Here are some basic questions that you need to ask your doctor before starting with the whole treatment procedure.

What is the reason behind losing my ability to hear?
In order to get the right treatment, you should know exactly where the problem lies and how severe the condition is. Therefore, you should ask your specialist that exactly what kind of hearing complication you have, what is the root cause of this condition and only then you should proceed towards receiving the given treatment. Hearing impairment can take place because of many reasons like medication, inflammation, infection or simply because of ageing. According to the cause and nature of the disease treatment will also be provided differently.

How bad exactly is my condition?
From mild to severe- your impaired ability to hear can be at any stage in between. The taken approach towards the disability would be different based on the stage of criticality. In order to understand “the stage” your audiologist will run some test to diagnose frequencies and pitches you have to struggle to hear the most. After understanding the condition, the hearing specialist will provide a suitable and probable solution(s) for your degree of hearing loss. Remember, not every type of hearing impairment is treated with hearing aids. However, if the condition is critical then hearing aid will possibly be considered to be the best treatment.

What if I don’t do anything?
Well, the consequence will be similar if you are going through a bad headache, fever, stomach pain or any other health condition and just leave it like that without having any treatment. If you are facing mild hearing loss now, without any treatment the situation will only become worse. Therefore, a smart person will never make the mistake of leaving this problem without proper doctor’s consultation just to make the condition deteriorate even more.

How expensive will the treatment be?
Well, this is an important question. Before just “going with the flow” you should clearly develop an understanding of how much expenditure the whole diagnosis and treatment procedure will take. Start from the beginning. During the consultation ask your audiologist about the fees of diagnostic tests and if these can be covered by insurance or not. If you need a hearing aid, get a clear idea of purchase and maintenance cost involved with that device.

These are the general questions that you should ask your audiologist before starting with your diagnosis and treatment. When a patient is fighting the battle with hearing impairment, family members play a very crucial role. Audiologists can also guide family members of an affected patient with various methods of managing the condition and supporting that patient by helping them in understanding his/her communication needs or installing simple assistive devices around the home.

Doctors Shortage in the USA: Who are Real Culprits?

According to the report of Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), by 2030, the USA will face a huge shortage of 40,800-1,04,000 physicians. If anything like this actually takes place, it will become a nightmare for both the US patients and healthcare marketers.
Marketers have to make their foundation strong before starting with their campaigns- proper identification of target audience is definitely one way to do that. Well, healthcare marketers always have the option to purchase doctors email database from an authentic vendor and keep the campaigns focused based on that. But what makes a smart marketer "better" is, having an in-depth understanding of the targeted market.
If numbers are telling the truth, the US healthcare industry is going to face some serious challenges in near future. A smart marketer should, therefore, have an in and out knowledge of this situation before starting with their marketing projects. Let’s take a look at 4 major factors related to the complication of the physician shortage in the US.

Doctors Mailing List
Doctors Email List

Population Growth
With the constant advancement in medical science, the mortality rate is continuously decreasing. According to NBC News report, there has been 15% downfall of infant mortality rate in this country.
With more people are living to be older, demand for specialized physicians is simultaneously rising. As per Janis Orlowski, the Chief Healthcare Officer of AAMC, demography is one of the most important factors behind this shortage of US doctors. He has said, “the number of people over the age of 65 is expected to go up by 40-45% within the next 10 years.” Therefore, there will be a huge demand for doctors with expertise in offering treatment for diseases that mostly appear in this older and sicker population.

Supply of Physicians is Decreasing
As the fact-sheets suggest, demand for doctors and physicians is gradually rising. But the supply of physicians is not increasing at that same pace, rather the number is actually falling down.
According to OECD statistics, there are 2.56 doctors per 1000 US people- which is definitely not sufficient. Besides, every 1 in 3 practicing physicians is now over the age of 65 and close to retirement.
In order to fill the huge demand for physicians, medical schools should increase student capacity as soon as possible- which is not really happening. The average acceptance rate for medical students is now 44.5%, whereas some medical schools are accepting even less than 10% students.
This situation is taking place because of the major reduction in government funding in healthcare. According to Los Angeles Times report, the US Government is calling for almost 18% cut next year on their healthcare funding. Even National Institute of Health is going to see a huge budget cut of $5.8 billion. If the situation remains unchanged, future of the US healthcare industry is only going to get worse.

Shortage of Physicians in both General and Specialized Fields
According to Annals of Family Medicine report, by 2025, the US will need more than 52,000 primary care physicians. But the AAMC predicts, there will be a huge shortage between 12,500 and 31,000 in primary care doctors.
Cancer has now become an epidemic and the situation is only getting worse with time. By 2025, the number of cancer affected patients is going to increase almost 42%, resulting in a huge increase in demand for oncologists in the market. But again, numbers fail to bring any hope. By 2025, there would be a shortage of nearly 1,500 oncology specialists- which means, only 28% improvement on the overall number of oncology doctors.
The horror does not end here. The AAMC report also comes up with the prediction that there will be a shortage of 21,400 general surgeons in the US healthcare by 2020.

As per Geography
A large section of healthcare analysts are saying that there is actually not a “shortage” of doctors in America, the main problem lies elsewhere. As Dr. Rechard Olds, CEO of Carribbean Medical School St. George’s University said, “the real problem is we don’t have enough doctors in the right places in the right specialties.”
When the urban areas are flooded with high-profile specialize doctors and surgeons, in rural areas and other small communities of the country, there is a huge lack of primary care doctors, specialized physicians and surgeons.
Physicians in those localities are very less paid, therefore, doctors from urban areas usually avoid practicing in these localities. According to Becker’s Hospital Review, 70% of US counties do not have medical oncologists at all.

If the government doesn’t take any fast and effective action to solve this crisis, the healthcare sector in the US is going to be a tough place for the marketers to grow their business.
Still, marketers also have the option to knock the right doors by using can-spam compliant healthcare data. But they have to choose the right market vendor in order to get the highly-responsive healthcare database.

8 Major emerging trends that is going to change the shape of nursing care

When we think about First and Second World War, we still can hear the pain of innocents, the misery of those soldiers who were compelled to drink the poison of war. There was another battle going on outside battlefields and those streets of horror- where nurses were main warriors. They continuously were fighting their battle against the horror of world wars with only one objective in mind- saving as many human lives as possible. With minimal infrastructure and constant bombarding around them, they firmly stood at their positions and fought their battle of humanity.
Now the time has changed, but value and respect for nursing as a profession is still the same. With continuous advancement in medical technology, the field of nursing is now stronger than ever before. And this advancement is never ending. The upcoming years are going to see some outstanding transformation in nursing care.

Remote patient monitoring
RPM or Remote patient monitoring is a technology through which it is possible to monitor patients even outside the conventional clinical setting. Therefore, this technology will help to keep track of patients’ body weight, blood pressure, blood oxygen level, blood sugar, electrocardiogram, heart rate, etc. even after they will be discharged from the hospital. This will help nursing professionals to provide better care to their patients.
Change in demography
In near future, there are going be some major changes in the demographical structure of the nursing profession. According to the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses (by HRSA, the US government), present nursing professionals are more educated, technologically skilled and professionally experienced than what it was earlier. And the number is only going to get better with time. Besides, the number of male nurses is also rapidly rising with time.
Wearable technology
In order to get reports through remote patient monitoring, nursing professionals also have to be outfitted with necessary wearable technologies. Nurse practitioners would have to wear respective technology device that can help them to collect data through remote patient monitoring and assess health condition of their patients.
New nursing specialities
The constant advancement in genetic study and stem cell technology research is also putting an impact on the field of nursing profession. As the current healthcare market nature reflects, nursing practitioners who are specifically trained with genetic study and/or have specialized training in stem cell technology will be in high demand in near future. If nurses are also going to be specialized in these crucial areas, then it will be a great leap for medical science to proceed towards learning the causes behind critical diseases and find out solutions for those.
Robot Nurses
Many of us have seen pictures on the internet where a robot is holding patient or providing nursing care. This idea of using a robot for nursing services has created some major misconceptions among people. Many people think robots are about to replace nurses in near future, therefore future of the whole nursing profession is unsure. This is completely wrong. In providing nursing care, robots will be utilized for better nursing assistance- not to replace the nursing practitioners. For example, in Japan, they have developed a robot who provides assistance in lifting up and moving a patient from bed to wheelchair. This will help to reduce the risk of lifting injuries.
Intelligent alarms
Smart alarm or intelligent alarm is the new technology in nursing care that can keep the nursing professionals aware of the current health situation of their patients. Through these alarms, they can be notified if any patient is in critical condition and needs an urgent intervention.
Alternative care nurse
The practice of alternative healthcare is continuously growing across the world. Nursing professionals in recent days are very much skilled and have proper training. But with the rise of demand in holistic or alternative medicine, nurses are also going to get proper training in providing alternative therapies. A recent article (January 2017) published by Indian Journal of Palliative Care came out with a fact that most of the nursing professionals in the field of allopathic medicine are not very much aware of holistic medical care approach. But the excessive demand for alternative healthcare treatment is the main reason that the scenario is going to change very soon. Along with the mainstream healthcare, nurses will also be expected to have knowledge about alternative, herbal and other complementary forms of therapeutic intervention.
The list does not end here, rather it is just the beginning. As we can see, the world of nursing care is going to going to get a new shape within next few years. And this improvement in the nursing sector is gradually going to help the overall healthcare industry to achieve better growth. What is your opinion is about these emerging trends in nursing care and its impacts? Share your thoughts with us!

Different Types of Nursing Specialties: How Many have you Heard of?

When we talk about the standard of healthcare service provided by hospitals or other medical clinics, it is not just specialty physicians or surgeons we talk about. The quality of nurses and their provided care also plays an integral role while discussing this subject. For different healthcare services, there are different categories of nursing professionals. Some of the major categories have been discussed below.

Nurses Email Lists
Nurses Mailing List

Registered Nurse
RN or Registered Nurses are those nurses who have associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing. These nursing professionals assist doctors or physicians in hospitals and healthcare centers while providing treatment to patients with diseases, health injuries and other medical conditions.

Nurse Practitioner
NP or Nurse Practitioners are those nursing professionals who work under the supervision of physicians. These nurses can assist physicians in diagnosing diseases, prescribing medicines or to develop proper treatment plans.

Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse
These registered nurses work within ICU or Intensive Care Unit of hospitals. They are expert medical professionals in providing complex nursing care to the most critical conditioned patients in hospitals. As this is a specialty department in nursing care profession, it needs proper training and in-depth working experience before starting with this job.

Travel Registered Nurse
Travel registered nurses work on the temporary basis both nationally and internationally. Their duration of the temporary contract depends as per the demand of their specific working field. They sometimes have to work for weeks, and sometimes for a few years. Their duties and responsibilities are mostly similar with registered nurses, just they are the “no strings attached” employees who work for various nursing service provider agencies.

Home Care Registered Nurse
These registered nurses provide nursing care to patients within their home. Usually, patients with geriatric disorders or even young people with some developmental disorders can not leave their home because of mobility issues. In such conditions, these RNs help them to achieve nursing care without leaving their own place.

Oncology Registered Nurse
These nursing professionals provide nursing care to patients who are fighting their battle with cancer. They observe or monitor cancer patients, assist oncologists in prescribing proper medication, operate chemotherapy and other required cancer treatments.

Dialysis registered nurse
They are also known as Nephrology Nurses. As the name suggests, these nurses are experts in taking care of patients who are suffering from kidney disorders or any kidney functional abnormalities. They have to work in hospitals, as well as in dialysis clinics or patients’ homes to perform dialysis and other treatments suggested by respective nephrologists.

Neonatal Intensive Care Registered Nurse
They are the professionals who provide nursing care services in NICU or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of hospitals. As infants need immediate medical attention after they are born, these nurses have to be extremely cautious and careful in their work. They should have proper knowledge of all medical equipment which is required for providing life-support to a newborn baby.

A Nurse is a caregiver, primary communicator and knowledge provider to his/her patients. They are the mediator through which doctors can be aware of patients’ health condition and prescribe solutions accordingly. This is why nurses are often called “heart” of the healthcare system.

Do you need to visit a Dermatologist? - Find out now!

Just think of this situation. Your brother is getting married. You have bought the best suit for that very day and booked the best available stylist to make you look like a queen. But one bright sunny day before the celebration, you wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and find a big round pimple shining on your face.
From the mandatory acne/pimple attack to troublesome critical skin diseases- Dermatologists are the specialists who can find us solutions. When we face a skin issue, there are always some “friends” who have suggestions for the exact skin problem we are fighting with. Most of the time, these “suggestions” are of no use. Rather you should consult a dermatology physician to find the proper cure for your skin disorder. Here are the 5 reasons why you should visit a dermatologist.

Dermatologists Mailing List
Dermatologists Email Lists

The pain of Acne
The irritation of acne is known to almost everyone. If your pimple or acne is something that you want to get rid of and that also very fast, consult a dermatologist as soon as possible. Hormonal fluctuation, bacteria infection, birth control medicine, stress- acne can happen for many reasons. It is always better to consult a specialist to understand the proper reason first and then take action accordingly.

The irritation of Itching
If your skin is becoming extremely rough or itchy, it is high time that you consult a dermatologist for the suggestion. There are several skin conditions that can cause such persistent itching. So it’s better to take the suggestion from an expert dermatologist before taking any sudden action. Because there might be some internal reason behind the skin complications you are facing.

Check the patch
If you have a patch which is darker or lighter than your usual skin color and therefore clearly visible, you should check with your dermatologist once. The patch or mole can either be your birthmark or something that you have recently noticed. No matter what it is, do a check-up to understand if this is a safe one. Because such moles or patches can be symptoms of some serious health conditions like skin cancer (like Lymphoma).

Helplessness of Hair fall
A recent medical research has come out with the fact that people in the USA spend more than $10 billion over hair care. Alopecia Areata, Androgenic Alopecia, Chemical hair damage, Telogen Effluvium, Traction Alopecia- the reason behind your hair fall can be many. So when you see you are facing excessive hair loss, don’t wait until its too late. Consult a dermatologist as soon as possible to find out the best solution for your hair condition.

And the list does not end here. Complications like skin rash, flushed skin, having issues with your nails or anything else- do not waste your time until its too late. Visit your nearest dermatologist to get the proper and required treatment for your skin problem. No matter how small or severe the problem is, make sure the dermatologist you are visiting for consultation is experienced enough.

How can you find the right child care provider center?

After the baby is born, parents can take leave for a certain period of time to take care of their child. But after that, both of them have to start working and get busy in their own lives. This is obvious, there is nothing wrong at all. But you have to be careful, rather very careful while selecting the child care facility center or day care center for your child. Because it will be them who are going to take care of your baby when you will not be there. There are certain factors that you should keep in mind while selecting a child care providing center-

Child Care Facility Providers Email Lists
Child Care Facility Providers Mailing List

Regulations and flexibility
Flexibility and some fixed regulations- both are necessary to raise a child. Similarly while selecting a child care facility provider, it is necessary to choose a center/specialist where both qualities are equally present. There should be some rules and regulations that the center strictly follow. Simultaneously, the center should be flexible enough to understand situational demands of parents and adjust accordingly. For example, parents can definitely drop off their children at different times, but there should be a clear mention of the exact duration of their operating hours. A good child care center would definitely provide you with a written document of their regulations on the very first day. If a center is not particular about its own specific regulations, then it would not be a very good option to trust your child with.

Daily routine (activities)
There should be a structured schedule for every day. The daily routine should include physical activities, group activities, individual activities and free time. Center professionals should be able to provide a clear structure of their curriculum that they have planned for children. Another thing, those activities should be differentiated as per children’s age group. In order to make these activities take place, the center should have enough age-approved toys and teaching materials with them.

Qualified and experienced caregivers
In order to understand inner-environment of the center (as your child is going to spend a long time of the day inside this center) observe the behavior of staffs of that center. Look how they are behaving with each other. Spend some time there, observe how they tackle or communicate with the children. This will allow you to understand how good or bad the center environment is actually going to be for your child. Make sure they have trained and experienced nannies and child care providers. As per NAEYC guidelines, there should be 1 caregiver for every 3 children. Still, the number can vary as per different conditions (like age group, etc.). Make sure caregivers are responsible enough and well prepared to handle all kind of emergency health situations.

These are the 3 major factors, but there are more! Make sure they are providing healthy food. If your baby has allergy from any particular food, make them aware of that from the very beginning. Make sure cleanliness is properly maintained here. Last but not the least, check and double-check if they hold the current license and credentials or not. Maintain constant communication to keep track of their activities before your kid starts talking.

The different categories of a Pharmacist’s role are as given below:

  • providing patient education related to the usage of prescriptions and non-prescribed medications,
  • while also providing population-focused care in institutional facilities,
  • educating and advising doctors, physicians, specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals on medication therapies and decisions to be taken on that basis.

Top 3 Health Issues Which are Affecting Women’s Health

Irrespective of gender, diseases are the common uninvited guests in every human being’s life. But specifically, the health condition of women is now a very crucial matter of concern. We all are aware of the fact that diseases like PCOS, breast cancer, etc. are mostly present among women. But, there are some common, as well as critical health complications like heart diseases, osteoporosis, etc., which are gradually affecting women's health more than men. Some of the top global women’s health specialists from different medical fields have pointed out 3 major health hazards of women in the present days. Let’s take a look at what they are, what are the causes and who are at risk.

Heart disease
As per a recent research by Mayoclinic, heart disease has been considered as the leading cause of death among the women in the United States. The women who are not living a healthy lifestyle, are currently under immense threat of heart disease. The situation becomes more complicated for women in case of having a heart attack. Unlike men, most of the times women hardly feel any severe symptom like chest pain. On the contrary, they usually feel heart attack symptoms which are unrelated to chest pain, like- shortness of breath, sweating, discomfort in neck, jaw, shoulder or upper back, etc. High blood pressure, diabetes, excessive smoking, menopause, anxiety, etc. can be the major reasons for developing heart diseases among women.

Breast cancer
As per World Health Organization’s (WHO) 2013 report, breast cancer had taken more than 5,08,000 women's’ lives across the world in 2011. And the saddest part is, the situation is only getting worse. Presently, 1 in every 8 women in the United States is developing breast cancer. Some of the most common breast cancer symptoms are- inverted nipple, breast pain, sore nipple, bloody nipple discharge, swollen lymph nodes in armpits or neck, any change in the size/shape of breast or nipple, etc. Even though the actual reasons of breast cancer could not be identified, some recent medical studies have come out with some common risk factors, which includes- inherited BRCA1 and BRCA2, late pregnancy, having dense breasts, family history of breast cancer, etc.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is one of the leading endocrine conditions which are severely affecting women of reproductive age. As per the National Institutes of Health’s report of US Department of Health and Human Services, 5-10% women between the age group of 18-44 are at risk of PCOS. Not only that, women who have obesity or have someone in their family (like mother or sister) with PCOS, they are also at risk. The exact number of PCOS affected women is not recorded. But, the women’s health specialists like obstetrician and gynaecologists, endocrinologists and expert medical researchers have estimated that 1 in every 10-15 women are getting affected by this disease nowadays. Some of the common PCOS symptoms are- menstrual irregularities, infertility, excess hair growth, obesity, etc.

The list does not end here. There are other major health complications which are affecting the health of the women. For example, women usually have a chance of developing osteoporosis after menopause, as the oestrogen hormone decreases at that time which is responsible for protecting bones. Researchers have come out with the fact that women are twice likely to experience severe depression than men. More awareness needs to be spread and more women’s health specialists should effectively take the responsibility to fight this situation. Because it’s never possible for a society to proceed towards betterment if its pillar is struggling hard to live a healthy life.

Facts about the Nephrology in the U.S.

Did you know that approximately 26 million Americans suffer from acute kidney disease; say about 1 in 9. This gets even serious as studies prove that 570,000+ Americans are reported of kidney failure which is also known by many as end-stage renal disease. The Kidney Health Initiative (KHI) in USA works upon bettering patient conditions and supporting process of new therapies for all kidney patients.

  • The innovation and launch of new Nephrology drugs in the United States has significantly helped the treatment of patients with kidney diseases.

Did you know that kidney diseases can vary in the occurrence depending on race and ethnicity? Sad, but true as the facts are concerned:
  • Afro-Americans are more likely to suffer from kidney failure as compared to white counterparts, due to hypertension. Having said that, African-Americans are 4 times more prone to getting kidney failure than Caucasians.
  • Caucasians are, on the other hand, 2 times less likely than Hispanics and American Indians when it comes to getting a kidney failure.
What does kidney failure result in?
  • Kidney failure can cause hypertension which may be diagnosed in 80% of kidney patients.
  • Besides, heart disease and heart attacks can be caused by kidney failure too.
Now let us get run you through 5 prime interconnected Nephrology workforce problems that come up every year:

The number of Nephrologists needed per year
Over the past few years, there has been a decline in the number of USA Allopathic medical school graduates and international medical graduates opting for Nephrology. Academic year 2014-15 saw 8% drop in the fellows entering the Nephrology specialty, which went even worse in 2015–16. Surveys indicated that the issues in attracting well-qualified Nephrology fellows can be a cause the numbers are decreasing. The demand and supply may be gradually becoming slow. Fortunately, the new “all-in” policy is probably going to help in the increase of the applicant numbers in Nephrology.

The location distribution of Nephrologists
The distribution of Nephrologists is not even across the USA and even the distribution of kidney patients is very vague. The fellowship programs’ location allocation is not in lines with the regions of requirement. So, the graduates of present programs have chosen the Executive Summary stay in the regions they are trained in. There is a need to identify the areas of major need for Nephrologists and to pass on those reports to policy-makers and fellows both. So, if there is any slowdown in the increase in the number if entrants into this specialty, it should be checked attentively.

Future career paths for Nephrologists
With the increase in the division of kidney treatment included with procedures indicating their relation to other specialties which include hospitalists, there remains a message of uncertainty of the application of such procedures in the future. Given that, the growing for-profit dialysis providers and the time spent in observing dialysis care, along side accelerating pressure to yield more income add up to making the specialty less captivating and profitable to the existing as well as potential Nephrologists. Their roles and responsibilities should be watched upon closely aligned with the health care system that is constantly moving towards  population-centric health care. If given attention these features, Nephrology may become more alluring a field to most internists in the future.

6 Steps to become a successful Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

Do you know who is the villain of the house?- the corner of the dinner table. There is no one in the world who does not know the unbearable pain of getting hit by the corner of the table. Well, if this pain is too hard to bear, how would you feel if the nurse anesthetist just ignores to do his/her job before your surgery? Yes, the result will be unimaginable suffering! Nurse Anesthetists (certified registered nurse anesthetist or CRNA) take care of the anesthesia services in the wide range of healthcare solutions- from the critical surgeries in hospital emergency rooms to the dentist's office. Here are the top 6 steps that one should take to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist.

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Email List
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Email List

Step 1- The Bachelors Degree
You need to have a bachelors degree of science in nursing (BSN). In order to get the registered nursing license, you need to pass the examination of registered nurses, which is NCLEX-RN.

Step 2- Start getting experience
Like any other profession, just holding a degree is not sufficient to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist- you need to have a proper working experience to get better career opportunities. It is always a good to start with internships. From there you can pick a program for entry-level job placement.

Step 3- Be ready to work for long hours
Just remove the idea of “fixed working hours” from your mind. The activity of a nurse anesthetist starts even before the whole procedure begins. First, s/he has to do a pre-operative screening to understand specific anesthesia needs of the patient. Even after performing the anesthesia, the nurse has to thoroughly observe the patient throughout the course and has to be ready to respond whenever the patients need.

Step 4- Learn to be good with the patients
An expert nurse anesthetist knows how to be good with people. They need to maintain direct contact with the patients- especially when they are going through the most critical phase of their lives. Their good behaviour can help a patient to improve their self-confidence that can increase the chance of success of their surgery. At this stage, the skill of proper patient care makes a nurse anesthetist better professional than the others.

Step 5- Develop clear understanding of different procedure and use of equipment
Last but not the least, a nurse anesthetist has to be an expert in the several forms of anesthesia procedures like oral, through injection, inhalational, etc. These nursing professionals should have a clear understanding of the pharmacology and the technical machinery which are used to monitor patients throughout the entire anesthesia procedure.

Step 6- The final degrees
It is necessary to complete the master’s of science in nursing (MSN). After getting this degree, one has to pass the certification examination that will finally allow you to become a “certified registered nurse anesthetist” (CRNA).

According to the 2016-17 Occupational Outlook Handbook of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median national annual salary for CRNAs is $1,53,780. Well, the actual salary amount depends on the specialisation within this nursing field, location of the hospital and of course, based on the years of experience.

5 Ways Speech Pathologists can make your life Better

Communication or interaction is not just a method of transferring message or stating an opinion. Communication is rather the way that helps us to realise that yes, we are alive! Do you remember the movie “Cast Away” and the character (Chuck) played by Tom Hanks? He was completely alone on the whole island. He drew a face on the bloody hand print on a Wilson volleyball and started talking to the ball by naming it “Wilson”. He created an object “to communicate” with his own blood just to have the feeling that he is alive! If communication is not another name of reminding of our existence- then what is! But think of the people who face difficulties in their very task of communication or speaking. Well, luckily we are not living on an uninhabited island where we still have to learn to make fire for our survival. With the constant improvement in medical science, speech pathologists are presently equipped with more advanced tools and technology to get these people out of their complications. Let’s have a look at the disorders that can be cured with the help from an efficient speech-language pathology professional.

Speech Pathologists Email List and Mailing Addresses

Finding cure for the speech disorders
Speech pathologists help to find a cure for the disability of moving articulators or lips, jaw, tongue and palate. In this manner, the specialists rectify the process of producing individual sounds and improve their communication skills.

Bringing back the fluency
No matter how studious a child is, if s/he doesn’t have fluency in speaking, this becomes a major cause of his/her depression and lack of self-confidence. Stuttering is a disorder that affects a person’s speech fluency- if treated properly, this disorder can be cured. Speech pathologists first evaluate the stage of the disorder by observing primary symptoms like repetitions, prolongations, blocks, etc. or secondary behavioural symptoms like eye blinks, tension in the neck, shoulders and face, nose flaring etc. After identifying the stage, they prescribe some methods that can help a patient to control such behaviours and increase speech intelligence.

Rectifying swallowing and feeding disorders
Children who are facing swallowing and feeding issues, their parents should immediately bring them to the nereby hospital or clinic where they can find an experienced speech pathology specialist. These doctors have in-depth knowledge about the functions and structures of oral cavities and help the kids to find a cure for the myofunctional disorder.

Taking care of the damaged vocal cord
Complications like vocal cord paralysis, nodules on the vocal cords, etc. can affect the vocal folds. Again, some behavioural issues can be the reason for the damage of vocal folds. For example, the bad habit of too much talking, excessive yelling or frequent throat clearing can lead to the strains of vocal folds. In such cases, doctors with experience in speech and resonance disorders can bring patients out of these behaviours and consequently repair the damages.

Finding hope for the ones who have lost it
For the children who are born with some communication disorders or acquired due to any disease or accident (like head injury, stroke etc.)- their parents should consult speech pathology specialist as soon as possible. These doctors will teach the child some compensatory methods to overcome the barriers and confidently build their communication skills.

In short, consulting a speech pathologist will not only improve communication and interactive skill but these specialists can help a person to face the harsh outside world with strong self-confidence that can change his/her whole life.

When is the right time to visit an optometrist?

They say “eyes are the windows of the soul”. A pair of eyes and a second of glance can express a lot more than words can ever do. Optometrists are the eye doctors who examine eyes for both vision rectification and to cure its health problems. After an in-depth evaluation, they correct the refractive errors by prescribing needed contact lenses or eye glasses. But many people are not very aware of the fact that exactly when is the right time to visit an optometrist for their eye check up. Frequent headaches
If you are continuously suffering from a headache, the first question you should ask yourself is- “when was my last eye check up”? If your work needs you to stay in front of the computer screen for a long time or work overnight or anything that is causing you headaches frequently, you should not delay your eye check-up anymore. This headache may also be caused by astigmatism, long-sightedness or even glaucoma. In order to keep your vision safe and know the real problem, get your eyes checked by a specialist ophthalmologist.

Eye infection
If you have an infection in your eye, go to the doctor- Plain and simple. Eye pain, increased sensitivity to light, redness, fever, blurred or decreased vision, foreign body sensation- these are the symptoms of eye infection. Even if any one symptom is present, go to the doctor as soon as possible.

Bright flashes/floaters
If you feel like small dots, lines or circles are filling your vision or suddenly can see the flash of lights in your field of vision, check with your optometrist right now. If diagnosed early, these complications can be treated. Otherwise, these eye problems can also lead you to blindness.

Eye pain
If you are not feeling comfortable with your eyes- do not waste time, go for a check up. If your eyes are hurting, irrespective of the reason behind the pain, stop experimenting by yourself and visit an optometrist. Eye pain can be a sign of infection, injury, scratched cornea, glaucoma and even eye cancer. So, don’t take chance, go to a specialist.

Need for squinting
If you have to squint to read something from the computer or the road signs while walking on the street, this may be the time when you should start using eyeglasses. Optometrists will do a check up of your eyes and let you know which one will be the right power of glasses to make your vision clean again.

Be the smart one. Visit an experienced optometrist if you face any of these mentioned eye complications. Because it is always the best option to take suggestions from the specialists.

Why it is important to have one Family Practice Physician within the network

We all know that one doctor who has in-depth knowledge about all the health complications of our every family member. From the grandpa’s unbearable knee pain to the new two-year-old member’s sudden cold- s/he is aware of everything. From fever to fistula- no matter what physical inconvenience we face, family practice physicians are always the first medical professionals we visit and seek suggestion from. Here are few reasons why having such physician within the network is always beneficiary for a family, let’s take a look!
Family Practice Physicians in the USA
Family Practice Physicians in the USA

They know your personal and family history
From toddlers to the people in their 90s- these physicians continuously provide their treatments to the members from every generation. They know about your family health more than you do. If your family has a long-term relationship with a family doctor, it is quite possible that s/he is aware of your family medical history and provide treatment according to that. Therefore, their method of providing treatment is more reason specific and result oriented.

Helps to find out the right specialist
No matter which health complication you are suffering from, these physicians are always the first one to visit. By evaluating your health symptoms, your family doctor will prescribe you which specialists you should visit for specific disease-oriented treatment. For example, if you have jaundice and simultaneously facing issues like back or stomach pain, severe weight loss, nausea, vomiting, gallbladder or liver enlargement, blood clots, etc.- it is possible that you have pancreatic cancer. Then your family physician will refer you to a cancer specialist, who can provide you treatment specifically targeted to your health issues.

Pediatrician + Internal medicine physician
“One man army” will be too rhetoric to describe the efficiency of a physician, no? But these physicians are actually the one path of solution where someone from any age group can find a cure for his/her health problem. Pediatricians are the health specialists who care for the children and internal medicine specialists are those who treat the adults. Family medicine practitioners are the combination of both. From newborn to toddlers, rock stars teenagers, dreamers from the youth, workaholics from middle-aged adults, retirees and even the old bloods in their 80s or 90s- these doctors can find a cure for everyone.

Better life in lesser expense
According to Cleveland Clinic’s report, if it is possible to add one primary care physician (like family practice physicians) for every 10,000 patients, this will reduce the overall hospital admission by 5.5%, emergency room admission by 11% and surgeries by 11%. And this is basically a proven fact. In Rhode Island, the government has become successful in reducing the total healthcare expenditure by increasing their primary care spending by 23%. And various sociologists have already shared the idea that our society (or the state) works like an autonomous human body. It is also possible for us to avoid the massive hospital treatment expenditure if we can maintain a connection with one family practitioners for primary care treatments.

Now you know that why it is important to find one family practice physician for you and your family, right? Medical emergencies are exceptional conditions, but otherwise, these physicians are always there to provide you right and proper answer for any of your healthcare condition. But choose one with proper experience- because your family’s life depends on it!
